Teach Like a Champion Workshop

Date: Monday, January 26th, 2026

Time: 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Location: Mellon Board Room

  • This workshop is part of a nationwide training, crucial to the best practices of creating an engaging classroom setting.
  • The guest speaker at the event is Brittany Hargrove, who currently works for the organization, Teach Like a Champion ( https://teachlikeachampion.org/)
  • Hargrove has much experience, serving as a teacher and instructional leader at Brownsville Collegiate in Brooklyn NY, a Director of Curriculum and Instruction, an Assistant Principal in Harlem, NY, a consultant out of Pittsburgh PA, and an actress a part of many Netflix original series.

Important Note: This event is required for ALL education students

Lycoming College – Undergraduate Humanities research Conference

Date: Saturday, April 11th, 2026

Submission Deadline: February 6, 2026

Location: Lycoming College 1 College Place Williamsport, PA

  • This conference solicits advanced undergraduate research from scholars in literature, history, religious studies, philosophy, modern or classical languages, art history, and social sciences with humanistic content. Students who are interested in future graduate studies, professionalization opportunities, or simply sharing your research, please consider submitting your work.
  • The conference has hosted 60-70 scholars from two dozen institutions each year, and they anticipate another robust intellectual event this year. The conference is free and will include awards for the best presentations in different scholarly areas. In addition, all participants will have the opportunity to submit their work to be considered for publication in the Mid-Atlantic Humanities Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Research: (Mid-Atlantic Humanities Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Research)

Career Development Corner

Humanities Student Assistant – Spring Semester 2026

Core Responsibilities Include: 

1. Faculty and Staff Assistance: Assist Humanities faculty and staff with daily tasks including copying, scanning, filing, inter-office mail, and keeping Lindsay House organized and tidy.

2. Event Support: Collaborate with the Humanities faculty and staff to organize and execute department-related events, workshops (specifically the monthly writing workshop Holding Space on the Page), and information sessions. Assist with event promotion, logistics, registration, and day-of event management.

3. Social media and Newsletter: Collaborate with Humanities faculty and staff to compose and share content for department social media and program email newsletters. 

4. Peer-to-Peer Engagement: Partner with Humanities faculty and staff to engage with fellow students and promote the Humanities department through outreach activities, classroom presentations, and student organization partnerships.

Always B Smiling – Summer Internship

Always B Smiling is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to creating inclusive, meaningful, and engaging experiences for individuals of all abilities. Always B Smiling proudly serves children, teens, and young adults, with a strong focus on individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

This Summer Internship program offers students a hand-on experience working directly alongside their team and participants. Interns will gain valuable real-world experience in:

  • Inclusive programming and support
  • Community Engagement
  • Vocational and life-skills development
  • Working within nonprofit and educational environments

This internship is ideal for students studying education, psychology, social work, human services, special education, recreation therapy, or related fields, though all interested students are encourages to apply.

Summer Schedule:

  • 12-week program
  • Monday-Thursday 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Saturdays from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
  • Interns will work closely with Program Director (Erika) to review weekly schedule, hours, and Organization’s needs.

Faculty Professor Teaching Associate * Full-Time

The English Department at the University of Pittsburgh welcomes applications for an Appointment Stream Teaching Assistant or Teaching Associate Professor position, primarily in the Writing Program, to begin the fall semester of 2026.

Job description:

– The department is specifically interested in candidates who have an established track record in successfully teaching introductory and intermediate creative writing classes, of both single- and multi-genre focus, especially in poetry and poetic literature.

-The successful candidate will also be able to teach capstone-level courses, requiring intensive group and individual work with a small class of upper-level students, with demonstrated experience in fostering student professional development.

– The selected candidate will also have experience in Literature pedagogy and be prepared to teach courses in 20th- and 21st- century literature from a historical perspective.

-The English department is especially interested in applicants who have taught first-year writing and who are interested in contributing to our development of cross-programmatic curricula.

-Applicants must hold an MFA degree in Creative Writing or a related field.

Review of applicants will begin December 1, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. The appointment requires administrative and budgetary approval. The position is scheduled to begin on August 15, 2026.

Casa de Esperanza: Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Program

Description: caring for infants and children up to age six who are at risk for abuse and neglect in Houston, TX

“Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Members will serve vulnerable children throughout a 12-month commitment, living in a private, gated community (at no cost) and receiving a living allowance. Hands of Hope AmeriCorps Members will work collaboratively with other AmeriCorps Members in the home to ensure that children’s physical, emotional, and mental needs are met. While the commitment is only one year, the impact AmeriCorps Members have on the children in their care is lifelong.
