Appalachian Writers Series: Poet Frank X. Walker

The MFA in Creative Writing program presents a reading by poet Frank X. Walker, founder of Affrilachian Poets and 2025 winner of the PEN/Voelker Award for his new collection Load in Nine Times. Free and open to the public.
Event is co-sponsored by Chatham’s Creative Writing Club; the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; the International Poetry Forum; and the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for African American Poetry and Poetics.

Barbara Stone Hollander ’60 Lecture in Women’s Leadership

“A Forward Looking Retrospective: Lessons from the Long Freedom Movement.” Featuring Kipp Dawson ’94, Chatham alumna, activist, coal miner, and educator. The lecture will coincide with the opening of a new exhibit of Dawson’s extensive social movement t-shirt collection in the Gurrentz Gallery. Public reception at 6PM, lecture and Q&A at 6:30PM. Call for Submissions
Forbes & Fifth, the University of Pittsburgh’s undergraduate journal in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences
Forbes & Fifth are accepting submissions through October 3, 2025, as well as visual art submissions through October 13, 2025. They do not limit genre or topic. Some examples of previously published work includes literature essays, biology research papers, social science papers, poetry, fiction and more.
Students can submit work already written, whether for class or otherwise. Similarly, they accept submissions in any style of art as long as it can be reproduced in a visual format for the journal’s publication. If students would like to submit after this review, then they may submit through the site’s submission tab: http://www.forbes5.pitt.edu/submit.
